Counselling
Often it is the sense that something is going on in an individual's life that they cannot understand or control that motivates them to seek help. Most people have a troubling experience at some stage so contacting a counsellor is a positive step:it does not mean you are weak or a failure.
My approach is psychodynamic. At the heart of this approach is the idea that our actions and our experience can be motivated by what is unconscious; often repeating patterns from the past that are sometimes destructive and deep-rooted.
Where appropriate, I also incorporate EMDR in my work. This highly effective therapy uses eye movements to treat the psychological effects of trauma. Research studies have shown that EMDR can markedly accelerate the healing process after a traumatic experience and that the effects are long-lasting.
Counselling can help you make sense of the issues causing concern and can improve your ability to cope with them. The aim is not to 'cure' you, but to help you find ways to feel more in charge of your life.
